The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is the oldest and the most top-rated Academic Institution in Greece. This job post refers to in joint projects between the Digital Industry Technologies Department and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of NKUA, with the main activity held in Athens Greece. The recruited fellows will have the opportunity to participate in a competitive research and training actions across Europe, including the EU-funded actions of EXPLOR, OPTIMIST, ELIXIRION, SOVEREIGN, AIAS (more will come), in collaboration with different consortium partners across Europe (potential secondments to other partners may be provisioned).
Some key areas of research include Distributed Ledger Technologies (including blockchain), Beyond 5G/6G technologies, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) technologies, data analytics/artificial intelligence, network security, digital twins and Computer Vision. We are looking for promising candidates that will be either employed as
a) SOFTWARE ENGINEERS with proven expertise in some of the following frameworks: .NET/C#, Kubernetes, Kotlin/Java, Ethereum, Solidity, Openstack, Unity/Unreal engine, OpenAirInterface, 3D point cloud processing, Blender, 3D Studio Max, Android Studio,
b) EARLY STAGE RESEARCHERS (i.e., candidates should be eligible for being enrolled to a PhD – having / or being close to completion of an MSc ) with strong analytical skills, mostly focused in algorithmic research and/or mathematical analysis for mobile data networks with MEC, AI– or blockchain-backed service capabilities as well as ML/Computer Vision/AR for Industry X.0 applications,
c) EXPERIENCED RESEARCHERS (Postdocs) with proven academic record and skills in technical writing/project management/project proposals.
- For MSC/B.Eng/M.Eng holders (typically ESRs), the group strongly encourages potential candidates to be enrolled in the PhD programme of NKUA (although not a strict requirement).
- For PhD holders (Postdocs), the group also offers the option to be enrolled in the Postdoc Programme of NKUA.
Recruited fellows will receive a competitive salary, high-quality training and several other benefits, in full compliance with the Work Programme for Marie Curie Actions (also depending on the actions). Depending on the fellows’ skills and position, , working for a period of at least 36-months.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all actions organized under the assigned project (participation in seminars, contribution to deliverables, experimental setups, coding/testing or mathemtical analysis, on-site training, participation to physical and online meetings across the countries of beneficiaries, participation to international conferences, periodic meetings with the supervisors).
- Conduct top-tier research in the key areas mentioned above, either from the perspective of a software developer , or from the perspective of a researcher with mathematical/analytical skills publishing his/her research in top-tier journals. For Experienced Researcher, project management and project proposals should also be considered.
- Optionally be enrolled in a PhD program at NKUA and publish your research in top-tier journals/conferences in the areas of mobile telecoms, software engineering, machine learning, industrial systems
Qualifications
- Mandatory: Bachelor degree (BSc, B.Eng.) in Computer Science, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Telecoms, Software Engineering, Mathematics, which
- Mandatory: Master’s degree (or equivalent of it) in Computer Science, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Telecoms, Software Engineering, Mathematics, which should be recognized from the Greek Agency of DOATAP (doatap.gr). Or close to completion.
- Desirable: Fluent in programming languages such as C#, Solidity, Python, Unity. For Software engineers, the most important asset is to be fluent in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python and self-motivated enough to learn new programming languages/tools. Game/AR app developers working with Unity or Uneral Engine are also welcome.
- Desirable: Critical thinking and good understanding of mathematical tools for the analysis of mobile platforms will be considered as a plus (e.g., probability theory, queuing theory, convex optimization, stochastic geometry, stochastic modelling, dynamic programming).
- Desirable: Existing conference or journal publications.
